WHO CAN APPLY
Organizations determined as charitable under Section 501(c)(3)
of the Internal Revenue Code, public entities or other charitable, educational or cultural organizations may submit proposals to the Foundation. All activities funded must benefit residents of the Hartsville area.
TYPES OF GRANTS IN WHICH THE FOUNDATION IS INTERESTED
Recognizing the variety and scope of interests and needs existing in the community, grants from The Byerly Foundation are intended to respond to opportunities that address the following focus areas in order of priority:
- Education
- Economic Development
- Community Life
The Foundation will concentrate on the development and awarding of grants in education. Some of these grants will be major in scope, requiring significant planning and execution over a period of several years. Other grants will fund educational projects/programs of less complexity.
In addition, the Foundation invites proposals in the areas of economic development and community life in Hartsville.
The Trustees look forward to hearing from responsible organizations that seek to provide significant benefits to the community in the focus areas.
In order to make the best use of its funds, the Trustees will assign a higher priority to programs that:
- Offer creative responses to the community's most pressing needs and concerns;
- Demonstrate cooperation or collaboration among (two or more) agencies or program providers;
- Maximize the impact of modest grants as well as those of significant size;
- Leverage other funding through the use of matching grants; and
- Projects that will become self-sustaining without requiring ongoing funding from the Foundation.
We do not ordinarily fund: individuals, sectarian religious programs, debts or existing obligations; lobbying or political campaigns; technical or specialized research, intermediate organizations, fundraising, teams or events, advertising or memorials.
STARTING THE PROCESS
We encourage those who are interested in submitting a grant to call the Executive Director or send a brief letter of inquiry to discuss your idea before submitting a complete proposal. We also invite applicants to attend an Information Session hosted by the Foundation for discussion of procedures for developing proposals.
